Impressive work by a huge force of British bobbies, ably assisted by some shady coves from the SAS, storming a Peabody estate in North Kensington to bring two alleged al-Qa'eda terrorists to justice in their underpants. Excellent tv coverage, to boot.

Undermined only slightly by the leaked confession of their associate held in Rome, announcing that they have no connections with terrorist organisations, no connection with the 7th July bombings, and weren't carrying enough explosive to do any harm.

All of which points to the somewhat bathetic conclusion that the police dogs, the loudhailers, the biochemical suits and tear gas grenades at Dalgarno Road were deployed, at tremendous expense, in order to detain two perpetrators of what was, in effect, a practical joke.

Three belated cheers for Oliver Holt, Chief Sports Writer at the Mirror and, it turns out, a determined opponent of the choice of London for the 2012 Olympics.

On the day before the choice of venue was announced, he wrote:

*Suddenly, people who should know better are swallowing the lies and smiling lobotomised smiles. The biggest lie of all is that London deserves the 2012 Games. Well, I'm sorry, but we don't even come close to deserving them....*

I'm very intrigued by the so-called 'lost bomb', discovered hidden in bushes on Little Wormwood Scrubs, close by the home of Wahbi Mohammed, brother of Ramzi, himself arrested in connection with the attempted bombing at Oval.

The automatic early assumption is that Wahbi chickened out, and secreted his knapsack to hide it from the authorities; just as likely, surely, that - following a change of heart - it was his associates he was hiding it from?

"So, Wahbi, everything is ready?
"Certainly, certainly."
"And you have your bomb ready?"
"Ah yes, the bomb, the bomb...now where did I put it? I know it's here somewhere..."

Chelsea Clinton - or 40 goats and 20 cows?

40 goats and 20 cows - or Chelsea Clinton?

That's a difficult one.
